Z is for Zane Grey. He was a famous Western writer. He wrote “Riders of the Purple Sage”, which has been called the most popular western novel of all time. In 1953 he wrote a western novel called “Wyoming”.

Y is for Yellowstone National Park. This is Wyoming’s National Park and the first National Park in the United States. It consists of colorful hot springs, mud pots, geysers, forests, lakes, and wildlife.

X is for Triangle X Ranch. This is a Wyoming dude ranch that offers horseback riding, river float trips, and wilderness adventures inside Grand Teton National Park.

W is for William “Buffalo Bill” Cody. He was a union soldier, a buffalo hunter, and a famous western figure who became a national sensation in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s with his “Wild West” shows, performing all over the eastern United States and even in Europe.

V is for Van Tassell, Wyoming. In 2010, the population was only 15 citizens, making it the least populous town in the least populous county of the least populous state in the United States.

U is for Union Pacific Railroad. This railroad stretches across the Wyoming Plains and was part of the transcontinental railroad system that helped link the U.S. from coast to coast. The City of Cheyenne was originally built as a railroad town.

T is for Triceratops. This is Wyoming’s state dinosaur. It was the largest of the horned dinosaurs, growing to 30 feet and 10 tons, and lived 66 million years ago.

S is for Sagebrush. It is an emblem of the mountain west. This plant lives in the cold deserts of the west and can be used to make everything from tea and medicine to rope and baskets.

R is for Rodeo. This is the original sport of cowboys. Cheyenne Frontier Days is a Wyoming rodeo and western celebration that has been held every year since 1897. It is one of the world’s largest outdoor rodeos.

Q is for Quaking Aspen. This is a deciduous tree found among the evergreen forests in the mountain west. It has a papery white trunk and its glossy green leaves turn golden yellow in the fall.
